Besides binge watching Friends and indulging in Food Network cooking shows what do I do? 

 

So, my name is Kristen and 90% of people I both meet and know get my name wrong - why? I don’t know. I currently work in marketing after hopping from working in a primary school, in retail and at a tech startup. I definitely went through that post-uni confusion where I had no idea what I wanted to do, and admittedly I still feel like I'm in that place. However, I'm keeping things positive, and I like to think that I’m a bit less confused now. 

 

I definitely consider myself creative and I love developing and exploring different aspects of my creativity. At the moment I am focusing on photography and a bit of poetry. Photography wise I love capturing people as I find them more interesting than nature. When it comes to writing, I tend to focus on things that intrigue and interest me, including hair (curly hair and its many complexities), music and South Africa. My South African heritage forms a large part of the work I create and my identity. I’m fascinated by the things I am still learning and I love sharing. There are also so many misunderstandings and assumptions about where I’m from and I want to break down these misconceptions. I’m also a freelance music writer on the side and produce press work for artists. 

 

One of my biggest weaknesses is not following through with my ideas. This platform is one step I’m taking to overcome this chip on my shoulder. Follow my writing here on BCC and I hope you’ll enjoy what you discover along the way.
